Triunity Music LLC was formed in 2023 to direct-publish original Catholic Mass music and other pieces composed by Chris Gootherts.
Musical style and composition philosophy of the Mass:
Chris converted from Anglican to Catholic in 2010 and felt inspired by God to write two Mass settings based upon his love of marrying melody, harmony, lyrical content, and Spirit into a style that is singable and encourages congregational participation.
In his words, "I believe that musical rhythms need to mirror how we phrase sentences, the musical melodies have to reflect the sentiment of the words, and the overall tone should be conducive to the modern ear."
Chris' musical history:
Chris has been a church and professional musician since age 16. He is a composer, recording artist, music director, producer, and arranger in both the Christian and secular-jazz worlds. Chris has been involved in the contemporary Christian music scene having been honored to have performed with:
Phil Driscoll, Terry Clark, Steve Angrisano, Paul Baloche, Ron Kenoly, Jesse Manibusen, among others in church venues from 100 to 2500, and concert venues to 25,000.
Chris' jazz roots and ability allowed him to perform with, and open for many of the jazz greats:
Stan Getz, Sarah Vaughan, Dave Brubeck, Ramsey Lewis, Freddie Hubbard, Billy Eckstein, and many others at venues from colleges to the Monterey Jazz Festival. Chris was known by the stage name 'Chris James' during his jazz career.
"My Mother was non-practicing Catholic, and father was non-practicing Jew. I came to faith through the Episcopal Church in 1970 at age 14. I was baptized in water and the Spirit on a youth retreat and have been a musician in churches ever since. Although deeply rooted in orthodoxy and high church Anglicanism, my church work has been mostly in lay ministries for Episcopal, Evangelical Free, Assemblies of God, Non-Denominational, and now Catholic Churches.
I had a two year stint working full time on the pastoral staff of St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Little Rock Arkansas from 2002 to 2004. St. Andrew's was a great experience being part of a multi-racial church mission planted by Rwanda to Little Rock!
I converted to Catholicism in 2010 to move into the fullness of the faith and embrace the church that has been determining truth since Jesus ascended. I am currently a worship leader at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. I continue to provide worship leadership for men’s conferences, retreats, Life Teen special events, and Catholic concerts.
I am deeply committed to the faith as historically practiced by the Catholic Church for 2000 years, while continuing to share my music ecumenically with my protestant brothers and sisters. I conduct occasional praise and worship seminars around the country and across denominations, and play piano for Catholic Charismatic events."
